Solidarity with the Solling boarding school is shown in very different ways. Some actively accompany the school in the here and now – through scholarships, projects or non-material commitment. Others feel so deeply connected to the boarding school that they are connected to this place beyond their own lives. This feeling of belonging gave rise to the LSH-Ruhewald .
Since 1926, the Solling boarding school has had its own cemetery. When the space was limited there after more than 90 years, the idea of a quiet forest in the immediate vicinity arose – by popular demand: a quiet, natural place of farewell and remembrance. It offers a dignified final resting place in the midst of beech and oak trees. The changing seasons, the tranquility of the forest and the proximity to the familiar boarding school grounds provide comfort to relatives and friends – and create a place where memories can remain alive.
The Ruhewald is reserved exclusively for alumni and their life partners.
A personal conversation or a walk together through the forest offers space for all questions.
"Above all the peaks there is peace, in all the treetops you hardly feel a breath. The birds are silent in the forest. Soon you will also rest."
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
The LSH-Ruhewald is located above the Tannenhaus. A narrow path leads from the cemetery gate to a place of worship in the heart of the forest.
The urns are buried in the root area of selected trees. Every tree is registered, as are the corresponding urn sites. On request, a simple name plaque can be attached – gravestones or artificial grave decorations are not provided. Moss, ferns and wildflowers form the natural setting.
A tree or urn place can be selected during a walk through the Ruhewald during your lifetime. Relatives can also fulfil the wish of a deceased person and have a place selected or assigned.
