In the middle school at Internat Solling, young people experience a learning phase that combines professional foundation, personal development and community responsibility. Building on the lower school, independent, project- and competence-oriented work is increasingly encouraged here. The learning structure combines classic teaching content with innovative forms of learning in which students learn to develop self-organization, critical thinking and expressiveness.

A central component of middle school teaching is work in learning workshops, in which several hours of independent learning in the core subjects of German, English and mathematics take place every week. In addition, competence subjects such as “Basic Informational Education”, “Texts and Texts” or “Youth Debates” provide impetus for in-depth linguistic, analytical and rhetorical skills. In grades 9 and 10, students can choose from a wide range of subjects – from theater to democracy education to creative and craft activities (e.g. “fashion design”) in order to further develop personal interests.

The middle school at Internat Solling also attaches great importance to democratic participation, for example through the class council, and promotes international skills through offers such as German as a foreign language in the boarding school’s own language school. Focal points in the MINT-EC profile additionally enrich everyday school life. In this way, the middle school not only prepares the young people for the upper school, but also strengthens them as self-confident, reflective and committed young people.

  • 8th grade: Competence subject “Informational Basic Education”
  • 9th grade: Competence subject “Texts and copywriting”
  • 9th and 10th grade: Subjects of inclination (e.g. fashion design, theatre, Junior Academy of the Telekom Foundation, civil courage, printing workshop, democracy education, hunting, beekeeping …)
  • 10th grade: Competence subject “Youth Debates”
