Art at Internat Solling

For us, art is much more than a school subject – it is an expression of attitude, personality and cultural understanding. At Internat Solling, we see art as an essential part of a holistic education, on an equal footing with subjects such as mathematics or German. It opens up freedom for our students to think and create creatively and at the same time promotes concentration, reflection and aesthetic awareness.

Creative work in all grades

In the lower and middle school, art lessons take place according to the curricular requirements of the state of Lower Saxony. The students develop their own research and design work in the fields of architecture, design, photography, drawing and painting.

For the 5th and 6th grades, pottery and carpentry are also offered as practical creative subjects.
In grades 9 and 10, young people can deepen their design skills in the subject of “printing techniques” or “fashion design” – the highlight is the annual art exhibition and fashion show, where the results are presented.

In the upper school, all examination courses are open (P1–P5), so that art can also be chosen as an Abitur subject.

Individual support and creative freedom

Small courses enable targeted individual support. Every student will find the right technique and form of expression – from classic drawing to free installation.
The Department of Art also works in an interdisciplinary manner, for example through the design of stage sets or projects with other disciplines.

A varied weekend programme complements the lessons:
museum and architecture excursions, workshops such as graffiti, sewing or Christmas handicrafts and thematic art days encourage students to work their own art.

Small courses enable targeted individual support.

Spaces for inspiration

The art is created in the “Musenhof Complex” – in spacious rooms of former barns, equipped with skylights and modern technology. Opposite is the studio with a glass conservatory, which is open to all age groups.

Students’ artworks are visible throughout the boarding school:
in the corridors, dining halls, library, learning center, choir hall, and of course, in the art rooms themselves. In this way, the Solling boarding school becomes a lively gallery in which creativity becomes visible and can be experienced.
